Destination
Info:
A
short description of each area, please refer to the websites as they will give
you a better description.
Yellowstone – Mostly known for it’s
geothermal activity including geysers, hot springs, mud pits etc… We would get the opportunity to see lots and
go on some hikes with great views possible activities would also swimming in a
geothermal spring, fishing, seeing historical sites. This park also offers great wildlife including Buffalo, Elk,
Bears, Wolves, Moose, etc… Climate/ temperatures are similar to ours but oxygen
levels are lower so hiking maybe more strenuous then around NY.
http://www.nps.gov/yell/index.htm
Grand
Tetons
– Similar to Yellowstone but doesn’t have the geothermal aspect to it. But it does have some great mountains and
the hiking is great! http://www.nps.gov/grte/index.htm
Cody
Wyoming- Could
be tied in with Yellowstone/ Teton Trip
Desert
climate. Activities would include the rodeo and the museum.
Travel back could be via the Bear Tooth Pass.

Tom
Miner –
Camp ground just outside Yellowstone in Montana. The primary activity would be hiking.

http://www.jonkoon.com/summer/tomminer/tomminer.html A personal website but has some info.
Dinosaur
National Monument – The area of the United States where most of the Dinosaur Fossils
have been found. We would be able to do
White Water rafting right in the park, hikes and see fossils. Climate would be hotter than Yellowstone,
highs in the low 90’s. More of a desert
type climate. http://www.nps.gov/dino/index.htm
Southern
Utah Parks – Including Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands
etc…
Words
can’t really explain these parks. Each
one is different than the other. Zion offers some great hikes in the narrows (a
canyon), Bryce has some outstanding views and Arches are natures wonders. The wildlife is drastically different than
Wyoming, there is not the big animals like Moose and Bears but has it’s own
flare. This would be more of a desert
climate; highs in some of the parks in the upper 90’s to low 100’s.

Idaho
Parks – Craters of the Moon Natinoal Monument & Burneau Dunes State Park
Craters
of the Moon
is a lava field that is mostly barren.
The attraction that will probably interest the scouts the most is the
opportunity to explore some caves (lava tubes).
http://www.nps.gov/crmo/index.htm Craters of
the Moon Website
Burneau
Dunes State park – Is more of a desert climate with the larges sand dunes in the
country. The parks offers other
environments like marshes and lakes.
There also is an opportunity to view the stars through an observatory.

excitement. |
CLASS IV: |
Long, difficult rapids, narrow passages,

All of the above and then some - large,

Hiking
– As
stated on the survey, the elevation will make these hikes more difficult than
hikes in NY.
How
many days off from work can you take?
The
if we can take the trip from a 10 to a 12 days we will gain the opportunity to
see more and/ or take a longer time to explore stops on the trip.
Time
frame:
The
trip is being planned for sometime in Mid July to Mid August, which time slots
work for you?
